Single-cell RNA sequencing profiles drug activity within spatially engineered 3D cultures

Spatial transcriptomic techniques provide a wealth of information useful in guiding drug development, while three-dimensional (3D) cell cultures have demonstrated power in accelerating drug approvals. However, techniques for robust spatial analysis of 3D cultures are limited. Here, we present a transfection-based method for constructing cellular spheroids through a layer-by-layer approach, in which DNA barcodes encode the spatial positioning of cells.

First global synthesis of heat-related mental health impacts in children and young people: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of non-optimal temperatures and heatwaves, posing risks to public health, especially for children and young people. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the impacts of (i) non-optimal ambient temperatures and (ii) heatwaves on mental health outcomes in this group globally.

Safety and efficacy of elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor in children ≥2 years with cystic fibrosis: 96-week interim results from a phase 3 open-label extension study

Elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor(ELX/TEZ/IVA) was safe and efficacious in children with CF 2-5y with at least one F508del allele in 24-week phase 3 Trial 445-111. Children who completed 445-111 were eligible for the long-term safety and efficacy extension trial.

Modified Delphi Study to Establish Consensus on an Australasian Minimum Data Set for Pediatric Stroke Rehabilitation

This study aimed to develop a consensus-derived minimum data set for childhood stroke and establish an agreed set of tools to measure key functional outcomes identified as important by childhood stroke survivors and their families.

Tonsils at Telethon: developing a standardised collection of tonsil photographs for group A streptococcal (GAS) research

Group A streptococcus (GAS) infections, such as pharyngitis and impetigo, can lead to rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease (RHD). Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations experience high rates of RHD and GAS skin infection, yet rates of GAS pharyngitis are unclear.

Skin health of Aboriginal children living in urban communities

Skin concerns are frequent among urban-living Aboriginal children, yet specialist dermatology consultations are limited with studies highlighting the need for improved cultural security. Through newly established paediatric dermatology clinics at two urban Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), we aimed to describe clinic and patient data, including disease frequencies and associations, to inform dermatology service provision and advocacy.

Cohort profile: A population-based record linkage platform to address critical epidemiological evidence gaps in respiratory syncytial virus and other respiratory infections

The Western Australia (WA) Respiratory Infections Linked Data Platform is a population-based cohort established to investigate the epidemiology of RSV and other respiratory infections in children aged 0-10 years, incorporating microbiological testing patterns, hospital admissions, emergency department presentations, and socio-demographic data.

Overlapping Streptococcus pyogenes and Streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis household transmission and mobile genetic element exchange

Streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis and Streptococcus pyogenes share skin and throat niches with extensive genomic homology and horizontal gene transfer possibly underlying shared disease phenotypes.

Invasive fungal disease in children with solid tumors: An Australian multicenter 10-year review

Invasive fungal disease (IFD) occurs less frequently during treatment for solid compared to hematological malignancies in children, and risk groups are poorly defined. Retrospective national multicenter cohort data (2004-2013) were analyzed to document prevalence, clinical characteristics, and microbiology of IFD.
