Reports and Findings
Pregnant women are at higher risk of contracting listeriosis, which can lead to serious perinatal complications. This study evaluated associations between Listeria monocytogenes exposure, infant perinatal outcomes, and hospital resource use in a cohort of 1604 Australian mother-infant dyads.
The Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development are widely used to assess early development, yet evidence for inter-rater reliability in multidisciplinary contexts remains limited. This study evaluated inter-rater reliability and agreement of the newest edition, Bayley-4, at age two years when administered by a multidisciplinary allied health team within a longitudinal cohort.
Acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and rheumatic heart disease (RHD) are prevalent among First Nations peoples in Australia. In Western Australia (WA), notification of ARF and RHD to the WA RHD register is mandatory and supports follow-up care. However, previous studies from rural WA have reported incomplete notification, suggesting gaps in surveillance and hospital-registry linkage.
Hematopoietic stem cells are defined by their remarkable self-renewal and differentiation capacities, giving rise to progenitors that generate diverse blood and immune cell lineages through the tightly regulated process of hematopoiesis. This process is governed by key transcription factors that control gene expression programs essential for cellular homeostasis, differentiation, and lineage commitment.
The Western Australian paediatric ESCALATION system, integrating family involvement, promotes early recognition and response to a hospitalised child's deteriorating health. This study aimed to understand healthcare professionals' experiences of Aboriginal parent/carer involvement in detecting clinical deterioration in the hospital.
The study aimed to evaluate the experiences of participants involved in co-production to develop a National Framework for assessing children's functional strengths and support needs. The National Framework was developed to guide professionals when working with children aged 0-12 years, including children who do and do not have one or more diagnosed condition(s), and their families in Australia and inform good policy across health, education, disability, and community support sectors.
Early childhood education and care (ECEC) is widely recognized for supporting children's development and school readiness; however, evidence from Western Australia remains limited.
Self-monitoring of glycaemia is a cornerstone of diabetes management, particularly for people using insulin. Traditionally, glucose monitoring involved finger-pricking and measuring capillary blood glucose concentration. Continuous glucose monitors have revolutionised self-monitoring of glucose levels.
Australia introduced a hybrid Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Maternal and Infant Protection Program (RSV-MIPP) in 2025, using National Immunisation Program-funded RSV vaccine for pregnant people from 28 weeks' gestation and jurisdiction-funded nirsevimab. We estimated real-world effectiveness and assessed the impact of the RSV-MIPP program across a participating surveillance network.
To explore the lived experiences of parents of children at risk of type 1 diabetes undergoing repeated blinded continuous glucose monitoring. Since 2021, children with persistent islet autoimmunity in the Environmental Determinants of Islet Autoimmunity study have been invited to participate in a sub-study involving blinded Dexcom G6 CGM.
